Walkway Over the Hudson – Starry Starry Night

The walkway was opened to the public on October 3, 2009

It poured and poured on Thursday, more rain predicted for Saturday and Sunday, but Friday, October 5, 2012, was a perfect day (and night) for Starry Starry Night. A benefit celebration on the Walkway and the Walkway’s biggest fundraising event of the year.

The celebration began at 4:45 p.m. with The Congratulatory Toast of the Honorees.

There were 8 honorees. Right photo: Fred Scheaffer, one of the honorees and the walkway’s major player.

The event, attended by hundreds of supporters, was a huge success. Among the attendees were many state and local dignitaries.

The beautiful weather plus the delicious food and wine contributed greatly to the festivity of the event and everyone had a grand time.

Food by Main Course, New Paltz, NY

Above photo: Main Course chef/owner, Bruce Kazan, putting together the duck course (one of the 5 food stations). The other 4 are paella, pasta with broccoli raab, roast beef/ turkey sliders and a chicken dish (no photo).

Hors d’oeuvres were passed, below are photos of 6 (don’t know all the ingredients in each item, so I will just list the ones I recognize).

Scallops in Chinese spoons, tuna in cones, smoked salmon on crackers, figs with goat cheese (on polenta?), steamed Chinese dumplings and Thai chicken. (I am sure each one has a fancy name but there was no menu).

Roast beef and turkey sliders

Desserts were also passed. They are: bite-sized apple pie, baked apple in a spoon, bread pudding (?) and chocolate cup.

What a lovely evening, the food looks incredible. I wanted to have paella in Barcellona but I couldn’t find a good place…next time. It’s fantastic that the weather cooperated for you.

      Hello Cecilia,
It was a fantastic night, I ate well, but was easy with the drinking.
Where I am is not THE city (am about 80 miles north of NYC). I frequently tell people I live in cow country.

  7. I love events like this. I learn so much about different food combinations and just being around people who like food is fun.

  8. The food looks fantastic! It must have been fun and wonderful!
    Have a great weekend!

  9. Boy, your area really knows how to have wonderful outdoor events. This one looks like such a blast. And the food…they really went all out on the food, it looks SO good, far better than most events I’ve attended. Thanks for sharing!

    • Norma Chang says:

      Hello B and B,
This event was HUGE! And yes, Main Course Caterer went all out on the food.
The Hudson River runs through the Hudson Valley and the area lends itself to wonderful outdoor events.
